Losing a mobile phone can be distressing, but this initiative by the Indian government can help you track your phone and recover it. The Sanchar Saathi portal, launched by the Centre for Development of Telematics (C-DOT) under the Department of Telecom, can help you block, track, and even recover your lost or stolen mobile phones through its Central Equipment Identity Register (CIER) system. Since its launch, the portal has blocked as many as 33,18,051 smartphones and traced 20,07,749 mobile devices, with over 4,57,320 phones already being returned to their rightful owners.
Here’s how you can track and recover your lost phone.
To track and recover a lost phone, users are required to obtain a duplicate SIM card from their telecom provider, file a police complaint, and then visit the Sanchar Saathi portal. Here’s how to file a complaint on the Sanchar Saathi portal.
“The key is to report the matter quickly. Early registration helps the system track the phone before it changes hands or is smuggled,” said C-DOT.
